Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave Game Appears Closer to a Backstory Instead of a Continuation

Nintendo’s partner and Nintendo thrilled fans a few days ago with the unveiling of Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave. The thrill only increased when it became evident that the game would be tied in one form or another to Fire Emblem: Three Houses.

This decision makes sense given the tremendous popularity of the Three Houses era, which even led to its own companion game. With so much world-building established across two games, it’s no shock that audiences are eager to return into that rich universe.

Hints Suggesting a Prequel

Multiple aspects in the trailer—such as the appearance of heraldic symbols, demonic beasts, and a individual known as The Divine Sovereign who bears a striking similarity to a Nabatean—suggest a clear connection to the Three Houses lore. Yet it remains unclear whether Fortune’s Weave will be set in the bygone era, future, or an alternate reality.

One detail is the introduction of The Heroic Games, named The Dagsion Heroic Games in the original language. This term bears remarkably reminiscent of Dagda, a nation featured in Three Houses. Even though the earlier games focused primarily on Fodlan, several locations like Brigid and Almyra were alluded to, leaving lots of opportunity for expansion.

The Enigma of Dietrich and Magical Artifacts

Another strong clue is the figure Dietrich, who carries a living sword featuring a Crest Stone. As revealed in Three Houses, Crest Stones are crafted from the remains of ancient beings. This raises the dilemma: does Fortune’s Weave take place following Sothis’s fall, or preceding Nemesis’s treachery?

Key Character in the preview

Additionally, the presence of Sothis in person in the preview brings another dimension to the theory. Different from her amnesiac depiction in Three Houses, she seems conscious of her identity and mourns on being ignored. This may hint that the events unfold amid or before her period of rest.

Reasons a Sequel Appears Improbable

At the opposite end, a post-Three Houses narrative faces major challenges. Three Houses featured multiple endings, each with dramatically unique resolutions. Considering the varied canon, it would be complex to develop a consistent sequel that pleases all players.

Protagonist featured in Fortune’s Weave

Thus, a past-focused story looks like the most likely direction. Besides does it allow creators to examine hidden elements of the lore, but it also bypasses the issue of undermining popular outcomes from the previous game.

Ultimately, if Fortune’s Weave proves to be a origin tale or another type of story, fans are impatiently awaiting more details as the launch day nears.
